And if you live in Germany like me then you know that after the fall of the Berlin wall 1989 when Western and Eastern Germany became one the german government revealed some of the so-called Stasiakten (stasi files). They included names of spies, communist double agents and ex-gestapo members aswell. In other words, the Stasi was not only based on Gestapo, it was the continuation of it, but under a communist regime!

Stasi was based on Gestapo. Even the names have similar meanings:
Gestapo = GEheime STAatsPOlizei
(Secret State Police in Nazi Germany 1933-1945)
Stasi = STAatsSIcherheit der DDR
(State Security in Eastern Germany 1950-1989)
